Just did not work with media player calssic. Have not tried it with other players since I am using only MPC. So get instead Koepi xvid codec. It is the best.

* Very surprised to see so few comments for this outstanding codec.
Hello !
This is the CODEC you are looking for.
Not only is it 100% Freeware, it's extremely versatile, encoding literally at 1000k/minute at 352x240 and 30fps !
If you'll check, you'll see that this ousts even the mighty RealEncoder or Windows Media which starts to bog in quality and fps at 220k/sec !
To nail that 1000k/min. you'll need to turn on ALL the bells & whistles on the codec. Yah it'll slow down to 12fps but well worth the wait for the final finished mega-tiny .AVI video. :)
For best playback quality, click on DECODER options and checkmark ALL there.
Download sample 1-minute 1-meg movie:

or see my site for review and usage on it. 2nd place goes to Freeware Microsoft Video 9 Codec which was a close finish.
Badboys of 3ivX & VP62 couldn't stand up to the meg-a-minute-30-fps-352x240 test !

That's all !

It works nicely and produces pretty good videos, but there's a problem with directshow:
After the installation of this codec, my win98 used to freeze when I tried to open an Indeo 5.04 Video using the DirectX DirectShow Movie player (forcing me to ctrl-alt-del kill the process). I don't know if it's only Indeo5.04, but since I got a lot of material in 5.04, I had to unistall XviD. Fortunately it was ok again after uninstallation.
